Thai lottery questions and answers

When is the Thai lottery drawn?

The Thai Government Lottery is drawn twice a month, on the 1st and the 16th, at around 4:00 PM Bangkok time. A few dates shift: the January draw moves to the 17th, May is drawn on the 2nd and the 16th, and December has an extra year-end draw on the 30th. Public holidays can also move a date, and the Government Lottery Office announces the calendar in advance.

What time are the results announced?

The draw is broadcast live from the Government Lottery Office in Nonthaburi. It usually begins in the early afternoon and the full set of numbers, from the first prize down to the last two digits, is complete before 4:00 PM Bangkok time.

How much is the Thai lottery first prize?

The first prize for matching all six digits is 6,000,000 baht per ticket. As tickets are sold in pairs, a matching pair pays 12,000,000 baht.

How much do the smaller Thai lottery prizes pay?

The last two digits pay 2,000 baht, the front three and last three digits pay 4,000 baht each, and the second to fifth prizes pay 200,000, 80,000, 40,000 and 20,000 baht. Numbers adjacent to the first prize pay 100,000 baht each.

How much does a Thai lottery ticket cost?

The official price printed on the ticket is 80 baht. Because tickets are distributed in pairs, a pair bought from a vendor costs 160 baht. Selling above the printed price is against the rules, although it still happens with numbers that are in demand.

Why are Thai lottery tickets sold in pairs?

Tickets are printed and distributed in bound pairs carrying the same six-digit number, so the number you buy usually comes as two slips. That is why a first-prize win is so often reported as 12,000,000 baht rather than 6,000,000: the winner held the pair.

How do I check if my Thai lottery ticket won?

Enter your six-digit ticket number in the Did I Win? checker, which scans every prize tier across 20 years of draws. Always confirm against the official Government Lottery Office results before claiming.

Can foreigners buy Thai lottery tickets and claim prizes?

Yes. There is no nationality requirement to buy a Government Lottery ticket or to claim a prize. A foreign winner claims with a passport in place of a Thai ID card, and the same stamp duty and deadlines apply.

What tax is deducted from a Thai lottery prize?

Stamp duty of 0.5% is deducted from Government Lottery prizes at the counter, so a 6,000,000 baht first prize pays out 5,970,000 baht. Charity Lottery prizes are charged 1% instead. There is no separate income tax on the prize itself.

Where do I claim a Thai lottery prize?

Prizes up to 20,000 baht can be paid by an authorised lottery vendor or retailer, usually on the spot and minus a small handling fee. Anything larger is claimed at the Government Lottery Office in Nonthaburi, where payment is made by bank transfer or Krung Thai Bank cheque rather than in cash.

How long do I have to claim a Thai lottery prize?

Two years from the date of the draw. After that the ticket is void and the money goes to the state, so sign the back of a winning ticket and keep it somewhere safe until you claim.

What are the odds of winning the Thai lottery first prize?

A lottery number runs from 000000 to 999999, so a single ticket has about a one-in-a-million chance of matching the first prize in a given draw. The last-two-digit prize is the easiest to hit, at roughly one ticket in a hundred, because it pays the least.

Can past results predict future winning numbers?

No. Every draw is independent and random, so frequency history does not change the odds of any number in the next draw. The statistics are for interest and entertainment only.

What do hot and cold numbers mean?

They are descriptive labels for the numbers that have come up most and least often in the archive so far. Over several hundred draws some numbers will land above the average and some below purely by chance. A hot number carries no greater chance of being drawn next time.

What is the front-three prize and when did it start?

The front-three prize pays 4,000 baht for matching the first three digits of a ticket against either of two drawn numbers. It was introduced on 1 September 2015, so draws before that date have no front-three result.

How far back does the data on this site go?

The archive covers roughly 20 years of draws, from 2006 to the present, and new results are added after every official draw.

If your question is not here, the longer Thai lottery FAQ guide goes into more detail, and the guides section covers how the draw works, claiming, taxes and the odds. To check a ticket, use the Did I Win? checker; to look up a number’s history, use the number search.
