Thailand Lottery Winners: ฿30 Million for a Vegetable Seller

The biggest of the latest Thai lottery winners almost did not buy a ticket at all. Pradit Sotho, 48, sells vegetables from a stall in Soi Wat Dan Samrong, in Mueang district, Samut Prakan, and he is not a lottery man. At around two in the afternoon on 16 October 2026, two hours before the draw, a friend who had taken up selling government lottery tickets stopped by the stall and admitted that business was slow. Pradit bought a bound set of five tickets numbered 011781 to help him out. Every one of those five slips took the first prize — ฿6,000,000 each, ฿30 million in all.

A favour for a friend two hours before the draw

The man selling the tickets was Khwanchai, 55. He had retired three months earlier and, like a great many Thais in their first months without a wage, had started walking a route with a folder of government lottery tickets under his arm. Vendors buy their stock up front, so a slow fortnight is money already spent.

He told Pradit that sales had been poor and asked whether he would take a few. Pradit and his wife, Lamphong, also 48, looked through the folder for something that felt like theirs. They stopped at the two digits on the end: 81. It is the number of their house. It is also the tail of their car registration.

They took the full set of five identical slips plus two other tickets — seven in all, a little over ฿1,000 — and went back to setting up the stall.

At about four o’clock Pradit checked the result on his phone. He said afterwards that for the first second he thought he was dreaming. The number on the screen was the number in his pocket, five times over.

What the couple did next is the detail that carried the story across the Thai press. They shut the stall for the day and gave the vegetables away — the morning’s greens, free, to whoever walked past. Then the regulars started arriving to shake their hands.

฿30 million, and nothing much changes

Pradit took the five slips to Samrong Nuea police station and had them entered in the daily record, the free twenty-minute formality that almost every big winner in Thailand completes before filing a claim. It produces a dated official note confirming the tickets were in his possession.

He said he would go to the Government Lottery Office the following Monday. He also said, repeatedly and to several reporters, that he intends to keep selling vegetables — which makes him an unusual entry in a year of Thai lottery winners who have mostly talked about new houses.

The plan for the money is the plan almost every new Thai lottery millionaire describes: clear the debts first, set aside a fund for his two children, make merit at the temple, and carry on. The family has rented the same room for seven or eight years at a little under ฿2,000 a month. Nobody mentioned a car or a condominium.

Why five tickets paid ฿30 million and not a rolling jackpot

To anyone used to Powerball or EuroMillions, a thirty-million headline looks like an accumulated jackpot. It is nothing of the kind. The Thai Government Lottery first prize is fixed at ฿6,000,000 per ticket and never rolls over.

Tickets are printed in bound sets, so a buyer who takes a whole set holds several chances at the same number, each paying in full. Two slips pay ฿12 million, five pay ฿30 million, ten pay ฿60 million. The odds of hitting the number do not improve by a hair — only the payout multiplies. Latest Thai lottery winners: the full 16 October 2026 result

Every set of Thai government lottery winners starts with the same six digits. The draw was held on the afternoon of Friday 16 October 2026. The first prize was 011781, paying ฿6,000,000 per ticket. The two adjacent numbers, 011780 and 011782, paid ฿100,000 each.

The front-three numbers were 402 and 392; the last-three were 171 and 255; the last-two was 48. Those lower tiers are where most of the prize money actually goes, in four-thousand and two-thousand baht slices, to hundreds of thousands of people who will never appear in an article.

The digital lottery winner on Paotang who took ฿42 million

Paper is only half of a modern Thai draw. On the digital side, the L6 lottery sold through the Paotang app produced 31 first-prize tickets on 011781 — ฿186,000,000 from that channel alone, held by 15 people.

The spread was lopsided. Nine buyers held a single ticket, three held two each, one held four, one held five, and one held seven. That last account is the largest digital lottery winner on Paotang from this draw, collecting ฿42,000,000 without leaving the house. The same draw produced an N3 special-prize number, 781000004657, paying ฿765,516.

Thai lottery jackpot winners on Lottery Plus — and a funeral in Buriram

Two more names joined the roll of Thailand lottery winners through the Lottery Plus platform, which reported four first-prize tickets across two customers: two slips to a buyer in Ratchaburi and two to a buyer in Ang Thong, ฿12 million each.

The warmest of the paper stories came from Ban Kruat district in Buriram. Kosol Chaimongkhon, 57, a rubber smallholder, was helping with a village cremation when a vendor came through the crowd selling tickets, as vendors do at Thai funerals. She bought seven. Two of them were 011781, and she took ฿12 million. She had hoped, she said, only for the last-two prize. The money goes to the family’s debts and an education fund for her children and grandchildren.

What Thai government lottery winners actually take home

Headline figures in Thailand lottery reporting are gross figures. Any prize above ฿20,000 must be claimed at the Government Lottery Office in Nonthaburi rather than at a shop or a stall. The ticket is signed on the reverse, identification is checked against the payment system, every slip is examined under a blacklight, and stamp duty of 0.5% is deducted at the counter.

On ฿30 million that duty comes to roughly ฿150,000, leaving about ฿29.85 million. Winners book an online queue in advance through the GLO website or app, and payment is made by bank transfer or Krung Thai Bank cheque rather than in cash. How Thai lottery winners spend money — and why the number is never random

There is a pattern worth noticing in this one. Pradit did not pick 011781 out of the air and he did not dream it. He read the last two digits against his house and his car, the way the two sisters in Buriram read a car registration and the Korat office worker read a photograph on her phone. The arithmetic of the draw does not care. The habit still decides which slip ends up in which pocket, and that is why Thai lottery jackpot winners can always tell you exactly where their number came from.

The other half of the pattern is what follows. Debts, house, children, keep the job — the same four things said by the Lopburi minimart worker who was back on shift the next morning and by nearly every one of this year’s Thai lottery winners. A man in Samut Prakan gave away a stall of vegetables, logged five slips at the police station, and said he would be open again in the morning.
