Thai Lottery Winner Takes ฿60 Million on Ten Tickets
Most Thai lottery winners hold one ticket, or two. The Thai lottery winner from Wiang Kaen held ten — every one of them printed with the number 820866, and every one of them worth six million baht when the Government Lottery Office read out the first prize on 1 March 2026. In a single afternoon, a 42-year-old interpreter from a hillside village in Chiang Rai became one of the largest Thai lottery jackpot winners of the year, with a payout of 60,000,000 baht.
How the Chiang Rai lottery winner picked 820866
The man at the centre of the story asked to be identified only as “Tui”. He is 42, lives at Ban Sai Thong in Por subdistrict, Wiang Kaen district, and works as an interpreter — an unglamorous job in a border province where Thai, Lanna and several hill-tribe languages meet every day.
His number did not come from a dream, a monk or a sacred tree. It came from arithmetic and grief. Tui’s father had died roughly eight months earlier at the age of 66, and in the months that followed Tui began buying tickets ending in those two digits. It is an ordinary Thai habit: turning a date, an age or a licence plate into a number and letting it stand in for someone you have lost.
He bought “66” for two or three consecutive draws. Nothing came of it. He stopped for a while, the way most players eventually do, and then, without any particular reason, decided to try once more for the draw of 1 March. This time he did not buy a single slip. He bought a full set of ten identical tickets through an online platform — and the last two digits of 820866 were his father’s 66.
Why ten tickets, not one
Thai government lottery tickets are printed in matched pairs and sold in larger identical bundles, which is why so many Thai lottery jackpot winners collect twelve million baht rather than six. Buying a set multiplies the payout on a hit without changing the odds of the hit itself: ten copies of the same six digits still gives one chance in a million, but that one chance is worth ฿60 million instead of ฿6 million.
The call he almost dismissed as a scam
When the results were announced at around four o’clock that Sunday afternoon, Tui was driving. He had not checked the numbers. Then an unfamiliar number rang his phone.
He very nearly let it go to voicemail. Thailand’s call-centre gangs have made an unknown caller something close to a threat, and a stranger claiming you have won money is the oldest opening line in the book. He answered anyway. The voice on the other end said it was calling on behalf of “P’Not”, the owner of the platform through which he had bought his tickets, and that all ten of them had matched the first prize.
He almost did not pick up. He assumed it was a scam — then heard he had won sixty million baht.
Tui has said he was left shocked, and then overjoyed. He had been married only five weeks — the wedding was on 23 January 2026 — and had no expectation that his life would rearrange itself so quickly.

What happened next is why this story travelled. Rather than settling the prize by transfer, the platform announced it would deliver the full sixty million baht to Tui’s house and livestream the handover. Reporters who reached Ban Sai Thong found the yard full: relatives, neighbours and friends had gathered for a village feast, and staff in red shirts were stacking bricks of banknotes on a black folding table in front of the house.
It is a scene with no real equivalent in most countries, where large prizes are paid quietly into a bank account and the winner is advised to tell nobody. In rural Thailand, a first prize is a community event.
How Thai lottery winners spend money — and what Tui says he will do
Asked the question every Thai lottery winner is asked, Tui gave an unusually modest set of answers. He said he intends to remain the same person, to keep working as an interpreter, and to plan his finances carefully rather than spend quickly. He was firm that money would not change his marriage.
And once the celebration at the house was over, he said, he would make merit and dedicate it to his father — the man whose age had given him the number in the first place. That instinct is common among Thai government lottery winners: big prizes in Thailand tend to be followed by temple donations, a new roof for a parent’s house, and the settling of family debt long before anything is spent on the winner themselves.

The adjacent numbers 820865 and 820867 paid ฿100,000 each, the front-three numbers were 479 and 054, the last-three were 068 and 837, and the last-two was 06. A pattern in this year’s Thai lottery winner news
Tui’s win sits alongside a striking run of 2026 stories: a monk in Khon Kaen holding a matched pair worth twelve million in May; a pregnant vegetable seller in Tak taking six million in June on a number an old man gave her in a dream; a migrant couple sharing twelve million in July. What separates the Chiang Rai case is the route. There was no vendor, no wooden tray of tickets, no market stall — the purchase was made on a phone.
Digital lottery platforms have changed who the latest Thai lottery winners are and how they buy. Ordering a block of ten identical tickets from an app is trivial; finding ten identical tickets on foot is not. As more Thai government lottery winners emerge from platform purchases, very large single-winner payouts of this kind are likely to become more common, even though the underlying odds have not moved a fraction.
The number that was never really about money
Strip away the sixty million baht and what remains is a small, familiar story. A man loses his father. He starts playing the number of his father’s age. It does not work, so he stops. Then one day he tries again, and the number that never came in comes in ten times over. Tui’s own reading of it is simple: the prize belongs, in some sense, to his father.
That is worth remembering the next time the temptation arrives to treat a run of digits as a system. It is not. Every draw is an independent, random event, and no number is ever due. What the best Thai lottery winner stories have in common is not method — it is meaning.
